The story of this piece
Hand-carved African djembe with goatskin head. Tight high tones and warm bass. All Drums are made with bird beak joinery resulting in a stronger construction of the instruments. Hand crafted Black Maire is hard (probably one of New Zealands hardest woods.) Heavy and strong, mature black maire is extremely durable. As a result it was used by early European settlers as a substitute for lignum vitae for bearings and pulley blocks.
